James Brisco

Projects Director

James studied Landscape Architecture at Sheffield University and later completed postgraduate studies in Urban Design at the Bartlett. Through this, he developed a strong interest in the relationship between landscape, architecture and place, which continues to inform his work across gardens, estates, public realm and cultural projects in the UK and internationally.

Prior to joining Marcus Barnett Studio, James worked within a number of leading design practices, including as a Director at Bradley-Hole Schoenaich Landscape. Alongside private garden work, his experience includes projects at the Queen’s House and National Maritime Museum, Oxford and Cambridge college estates, and award-winning public realm such as the shared space at New Road, Brighton and the ongoing transformation of Fleet Street in the City of London. His work is characterised by a careful reading of context, attention to materiality and planting, and a design approach that values clarity, restraint and long-term character.

Alongside practice, James is involved with the Landscape Institute through mentoring and professional review roles. He joined Marcus Barnett Studio in 2025 and continues to work across projects ranging from intimate garden settings to complex, historically sensitive landscapes.
